Georgia Introduction:
Georgia has a land area of 69700 square kilometers and is located in the central western part of the South Caucasus. It is bordered by Russia in the north, Azerbaijan in the southeast, Armenia in the south, Türkiye in the southwest, and the Black Sea in the west. Its geographical location is very important. It is the gateway to Europe from the Caucasus and Central Asia. It is a must for the ancient Silk Road and the modern Eurasian corridor, and one of the important countries along the “the Belt and Road”. Therefore, Georgia is an important entrepot trade country. 80% of port goods and 60% of railway transport goods are entrepot goods. Ge has two excellent deep-water ports, Poti and Batumi, in the western Black Sea, as well as two pipeline oil terminal ports, Kulevi and Supasa, which provide great transportation advantages.
Georgia has distinct four seasons and a pleasant climate, known as the “backyard of God”. It is a world-renowned tourist destination and also the hometown of former Soviet leader Stalin.
In 2023, Georgia’s GDP will be 30.7 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 6.7%, and its foreign trade volume will be 21.53 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 12.5%. And in recent years, abundant oil and gas resources have been discovered in the western, eastern, and Black Sea regions of Georgia, bringing new growth points to the Georgian economy. China is one of Georgia’s three major trading partners and has been the largest source of imports for Georgia for several consecutive years.
Development Trends and Future Prospects of the Automotive and Parts Industry:
The Georgian automobile and parts market has maintained stable growth in recent years, with an average annual growth rate of about 4% -6%. This growth is attributed to the improvement of residents’ income levels and the upgrading of consumption concepts. With the acceleration of urbanization and the increasing demand for car purchases among residents, the number of cars in Georgia has been increasing year by year. As of 2023, the number of cars per thousand people is about 230, and there is still significant room for growth. The Georgian government stimulates automobile consumption through policies such as tax cuts and subsidies, and promotes localized production in the automotive industry, injecting new vitality into the market.
Georgia’s industrial foundation is relatively weak, and the development of the automotive and parts manufacturing industry lags behind. The lack of modern automobile production lines and a complete supply chain system in China makes it difficult to meet the local market’s demand for high-quality automobiles and accessories. With the gradual recovery of the Georgian economy and the improvement of residents’ income levels, consumers’ demand for cars has shifted from basic means of transportation to higher quality and more modern models. However, local enterprises are unable to provide products that are comparable to international brands, leading to a shift in the market towards imports. There are a wide variety of automotive and accessory products in the international market, with excellent quality and competitive prices. Auto brands (such as Chang’an, BYD, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, etc.) from EU, Türkiye, China, Japan, South Korea and other countries and regions occupy a dominant position in the Georgian market.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries:
From July 26 to August 1, 2023, Georgian Prime Minister Galibashvili came to China to attend the opening ceremony of the 31st Summer Universiade in Chengdu. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern, reached broad consensus, and unanimously decided to elevate the bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership.
Both sides agree that since the establishment of diplomatic relations on June 9, 1992, fruitful results have been achieved in various fields of cooperation between the two sides. In the current complex and ever-changing international situation, both sides have agreed to work together to expand cooperation in various fields such as politics, economy, and culture between the two countries, strengthen cooperation in international affairs, continuously deepen bilateral relations, and jointly maintain regional and world peace, stability, and development. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Georgia 32 years ago, political mutual trust between the two sides has been continuously consolidated, and significant achievements have been made in cooperation in various fields. The economic and trade cooperation between China and Georgia has been solidly promoted, and China has become Georgia’s largest import source country and third largest trading partner for several consecutive years.
