Georgia Introduction:

Georgia has a land area of 69700 square kilometers and is located in the central western part of the South Caucasus. It is bordered by Russia in the north, Azerbaijan in the southeast, Armenia in the south, Türkiye in the southwest, and the Black Sea in the west. Its geographical location is very important. It is the gateway to Europe from the Caucasus and Central Asia. It is a must for the ancient Silk Road and the modern Eurasian corridor, and one of the important countries along the “the Belt and Road”. Therefore, Georgia is an important entrepot trade country. 80% of port goods and 60% of railway transport goods are entrepot goods. Ge has two excellent deep-water ports, Poti and Batumi, in the western Black Sea, as well as two pipeline oil terminal ports, Kulevi and Supasa, which provide great transportation advantages.

Georgia has distinct four seasons and a pleasant climate, known as the “backyard of God”. It is a world-renowned tourist destination and also the hometown of former Soviet leader Stalin.

In 2023, Georgia’s GDP will be 30.7 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 6.7%, and its foreign trade volume will be 21.53 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 12.5%. And in recent years, abundant oil and gas resources have been discovered in the western, eastern, and Black Sea regions of Georgia, bringing new growth points to the Georgian economy. China is one of Georgia’s three major trading partners and has been the largest source of imports for Georgia for several consecutive years.

Development Trends and Future Prospects of Building Materials, Hardware, and Decoration Industry:

The market size of building materials, hardware, and decoration in Georgia has maintained stable growth in recent years, with an average annual growth rate of about 5% -7%. This growth is attributed to the rapid development of the construction industry and the upgrading of residents’ consumption. Georgia’s urbanization process is accelerating, and there is a strong demand for housing construction and renovation, especially in the capital city Tbilisi and other major cities. And the prosperity of Georgia’s tourism industry has driven the construction of accommodation facilities such as hotels and homestays, resulting in a significant increase in demand for high-end decorative materials and hardware products.

Georgia’s natural resources are relatively limited, especially the raw materials used for producing high-end building materials (such as high-quality stone, special cement, etc.) are relatively scarce. The shortage of domestic resources forces enterprises to rely on imports to meet market demand. In addition, the overall development level of Georgia’s manufacturing industry is relatively low, especially in the field of building materials production. The technology and equipment are outdated, and the production process is simple, which makes it difficult to meet the market’s demand for high-quality and diversified building materials products.

There are many kinds of building materials in the international market, with good quality and competitive price, especially the products from EU, Türkiye and China occupy a leading position in the Georgian market. According to the latest data from Geostat, the total import value of building materials, hardware, and decorative products in Georgia in 2024 is approximately 780 million US dollars. This data represents an increase of approximately 9.9% compared to the $710 million in 2023.

The Georgian building materials and hardware market is in a rapid development stage, with a steadily expanding market size and diverse and full of potential consumer demands. The localization development is slow, and smart products rely entirely on imports. Chinese companies are expected to gain considerable profits in this market. In the future, with further policy support and consumer demand, Georgia will become a highly attractive and promising market.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries:

From July 26 to August 1, 2023, Georgian Prime Minister Galibashvili came to China to attend the opening ceremony of the 31st Summer Universiade in Chengdu. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern, reached broad consensus, and unanimously decided to elevate the bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership.

Both sides agree that since the establishment of diplomatic relations on June 9, 1992, fruitful results have been achieved in various fields of cooperation between the two sides. In the current complex and ever-changing international situation, both sides have agreed to work together to expand cooperation in various fields such as politics, economy, and culture between the two countries, strengthen cooperation in international affairs, continuously deepen bilateral relations, and jointly maintain regional and world peace, stability, and development. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Georgia 32 years ago, political mutual trust between the two sides has been continuously consolidated, and significant achievements have been made in cooperation in various fields. The economic and trade cooperation between China and Georgia has been solidly promoted, and China has become Georgia’s largest import source country and third largest trading partner for several consecutive years.
